Sunday Morning:

Sunday morning was very laid back. We had agreed that breakfast would be at 10, so the house was quiet and I studied a little and worked on my blog a little. When 10 arrived, Martha and Rodolfo invited Trudy and me to go out for breakfast, so off we went.

The restaurant was not far from the house. It was a large square building filled with tables and crowded with families. Rodolfo suggested the fresh carrot and orange juice mixture. We ordered that and coffee. I asked for café con leche (coffee with milk). I really like the coffee in Mexico and the milk is always steamed. I was a little surprised when I tasted my coffee — it was very sweet. Rodolfo said they use a special natural sugar. Okay, I would have coffee ‘dessert’ with my breakfast. We also had eggs. Mine were scrambled with sweet onions and chunks of tomatoes. There was a serving of light colored beans on the side, and of course, some hot corn tortillas. Rodolfo also ordered some sopes (tortillas with the edges turned up and filled with frijoles and queso that we topped with salsa and cream). They were wonderful. Next, he ordered tlacoyo, which was tortillas filled with frijole and sealed around the edges. Again, we added crumbled queso, salsa and a little cream. The food was wonderful and, as you can imagine, it sticks with a person for a long time.

There was a market in the same area, so we walked to an antique shop to look around. The highlight there was a functioning player piano complete with several musical scrolls. The owner demonstrated pumping the pedals while the piano played a nice tune. Then we headed back home.

Martha had a business meeting to attend with the neighbors that I met the night before. They all pay for the security and upkeep of their gated community and had some details to work out. Trudy and I gathered our books and headed outside to alternately sit in the sun by the pool and then in the shade at an unbrella shaded table. We studied a while and talked for a while.
