Our ultimate goal would be to be able to carry on a conversation, both spoken and written, without long boring pauses and without sounding like a four year old. Fluency, for me, would mean being able to have that conversation on the telephone!

Saturday Trip to see the Butterflies near Valle Bravo, Mexico
February 15th, 2009 No Comments
We planned to begin our drive to the city of Valle Bravo around 9 a.m., but it was 10:30 before we got on the road. It was Saturday after all and it was going to be a day of relaxation as well as travel. Rodolfo works away from home during the week, so I [...]

Universidad Internacional (UNINTER) In Cuernavaca Mexico – a Review
February 15th, 2009 3 Comments
The first week of school was a challenge but I loved it. It was exactly as I remembered it from last year except this time I am taking 5 hours each day of private classes instead of group classes. Plus one group class – a lecture. The first three hours are for grammar. 50 minute [...]

Things to Consider When Choosing a Language School
February 13th, 2009 No Comments
Since there has been such difference in the Spanish immersion schools we’ve attended, we’ve been discussing what to look for in a school. We tried to research our schools ahead of time, but still, you never really know until you get there. Naturally, you want to look at their website. And it’s a good idea [...]

School Starts – Monday in Cuernavaca Mexico
February 11th, 2009 No Comments
Sherry blogs:Monday morning we were served a good breakfast of scrambled eggs with roasted pablano peppers and onions, tortillas, salsa (of course!) and fresh squeezed orange juice. (Note: There is an abundance of fresh fruit here in Cuernavaca—all types. I recently grabbed an apple for a snack and it tasted like it was just picked [...]

First Full Day (a Sunday) in Cuernavaca Mexico
February 11th, 2009 No Comments
Sherry blogs: Sunday Morning: Sunday morning was very laid back. We had agreed that breakfast would be at 10, so the house was quiet and I studied a little and worked on my blog a little. When 10 arrived, Martha and Rodolfo invited Trudy and me to go out for breakfast, so off we went. [...]

My Arrival in Cuernavaca Mexico for Immersion School
February 11th, 2009 No Comments
Sherry blogs: The bus ride from the airport took two hours. Once outside of Mexico City, we started climbing toward Cuernavaca. I had forgotten that the area actually had quite a few trees (mostly pines) and didn’t look quite as dry as Oaxaca, Guanajuato or San Miguel. It felt good to arrive in Cuernavaca [...]

For those of you contemplating a journey to Mexico, especially those who are planning to learn Spanish through immersion, I’ve put together a list of what we paid for things. Exchange rates vary day to day, so I’m using an average of $14 peso to the U.S. dollar. Most days were a little less than [...]

You can take the immersion classes and still have time for a vacation. It’s an interesting, pretty place [...]

Learning Spanish in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

What level am I? When orientation ended on Tuesday, they had finished checking our tests to see where we were to be placed. They called out the names to go in each group. They started with level I. When they started with Level II, I thought, “hey, they missed my name”. Then, in Level II, [...]
